About BrainFrame

BrainFrame is a personal knowledge management system and reader built on one idea: your notes should stay connected to the material they came from. Read something, take a note, and BrainFrame keeps a durable link back to the exact source — so you can always trace an idea to where it started.

It’s also built to be yours. Notes are plain text. The links to your sources live in open formats you can follow without this app. Your library stays on your devices, with the cloud as an option — never a requirement.

What works today

BrainFrame is early, and honest about it. Right now it reads images and Markdown, links your notes to those sources, and keeps everything in open, local files you own. That’s a small surface — but it’s the real thing, working end to end.

Where it’s going

That short list is the starting line, not the finish. The entire point of BrainFrame is to grow into a single reader for everything you rely on:

  • More formats. PDF, EPUB, DOCX, archived web pages, even Linux man pages — each one brought in and cross-linked the same way, added as it’s ready.
  • Every device. Windows, macOS, and Linux on the desktop; Android and iOS on the go; your library synced across them as easily as opening the app.
  • On your terms. Eventually a standalone device, with the cloud there for those who want it and absent for those who don’t.

New capabilities land as they’re built. If a format or platform you need isn’t here yet, it’s on the path — and getting involved now helps decide what comes next.

BrainFrame is in active development. Follow along on the blog, help test it on iOS and Android, or write to me directly at getbrainframe@gmail.com.
